For 14 years, Milwaukee's esteemed Hal Leonard Corp. has staged jazz concerts at the Pabst Theater featuring the genre's biggest names.
These days, jazz's originators and their successors are being followed, partly, by a new breed, way beyond the "straight-ahead" mainstream. Some of these younger players are deeply influenced by other types of today's music - rock, pop, funk and more.
